Eastern Great Lakes Regionals

I’m back in Cali after a busy and fun week in East Lansing, Michigan for Regionals. I had a great week filled with friends, family, and of course lots of time spent at the rink. East Lansing is my hometown and competing surrounded by familiar faces made this competition very special. I also spent the week working with my long time coach, Kirsten, which was a lot of fun. I am happy with how well my programs were received by the judges and fans. I chose to do more simple technical programs than usual since I have only been back training jumps for a short time.  I was happy to get regionals under my belt after battling a groin injury for the past couple months. I pulled my groin mid-July and was off the ice for 6 weeks. Now that my groin is feeling better, I am excited to start training at full steam. My younger sisters, Braedyn (Novice) and Giselle (Intermediate), also competed. They both made final rounds and it was fun to be able to watch them skate and cheer them on. I haven’t seen them skate in few months and I was able to see how much they have improved. Now, I am back to training with my new team of coaches, Tammy Gambill and Vincent Restencourt, and training mates. I’m ready for some hard work!img_3748 img_3727

Training Programs Again

Off-season is officially over. I had a great couple of months working on technique and consistency with my coach Rafael Arutyunyan. I also visited my home in Michigan for a week and went on vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with my family. Having a couple months to condition and refocus for this season was great, but I’m back to training programs and adding the jumps I’ve been working on to my programs.

I decided to keep my short program from last season which is ‘Arabesque’ by Benise. My new long program is choreographed by Nadia Kanaeva, and I am in love with it. The music is a combination of three songs by Havasi: ‘Spring Wind’, ‘The Unbending Chinese Tree’, and ‘Ad Martem’. The style of the program is different from anything I have done in the past. Nadia made the choreography very challenging. I only fell a couple times while first working on it; Nadia enjoyed laughing at me. I hope that I can do the choreography as well as she envisions.

My first scheduled competition is Glacier Falls in late July. It will be the first time I compete there, and I will debut my new long. I am very excited for this season to start. In the meantime I’ll be training hard with my mind set on my future goals.

I’m thrilled to be keeping this short program for the 2016-17 season.

Off to Nationals

I recently competed at Midwestern Sectional Championships in East Lansing, Michigan. Not only was it a fun week of competing and seeing my friends but it was also hosted at my home rink. My little sister Braedyn competed as a juvenile lady and I made sure to cheer super loud for her! She skated great and she couldn’t be more excited about her first sectionals. I competed Friday and Saturday. I was first up for the short program which I skated to Firebird. I did a fiery program that I was happy with when I skated off the ice. I made a few small mistakes (tripping on crossovers, oops) but I got a good score and ended up in 1st. On Saturday I skated to Primavera. It is a beautiful, modern program that I love! I was very happy with my skate but I also have many things to work on before nationals. I took 1st place and was thrilled that I put out two solid performances after recovering from surgery. Before and after I skated, the crowd was WILD! My whole family, my friends, and everyone from my rink were cheering like crazy! I couldn’t be more thankful for their support. Overall Sectionals was a blast and I couldn’t happier with how the week went. Now I am back to training hard and gearing up for the U.S. National Championships. I recently went to Connecticut to work with my choreography, Daniil Barantsev. I am convinced he was trying to kill me but I came home with a more in depth understanding of my programs. I cannot wait to show them off at the championships but until then you’ll find me on the ice training! (Above is a photo from after my long at Midwestern Sectionals)

Fall 2013

Hi everyone! This fall is going to be very busy for me! I just started school and my training is starting to pick up speed. This year I am a Junior at Williamston High School and I will have to work hard to keep my grades up and skate every day. I am recovering well from my ankle surgery and working really hard to gain back strength.

My programs are also coming along really well thanks to my amazing choreographer Daniil Barantsev! My short program, with the music Firebird, is fast and furious. The Firebird is a bird from a Russian fairytale that was locked in a golden cage. The bird has majestic golden feathers that resemble fire. In my program I portray the struggle and fight of the bird to escape its cage. My long program is the opposite because it represents the weather becoming warmer, softer and everything becoming beautiful. The music title is Primavera which means spring. It is modern and unique. Towards the end the music peaks and represents a battle with winter.  I have been working with Tanith Belbin to help develop my programs and use emotion while skating through them. I love them and cannot wait for you all to see them this year!!
