Spring Events

My first blog from California! The past month has been a whirlwind of events. I graduated from Williamston High School on June 7th. On June 12th, I had my open house to celebrate and say goodbye to my friends and family. Three days later I traveled to California. As you can imagine, packing up your entire life to move is not an easy task. I was so busy the couple weeks before leaving that all my packing happened the day before I left. So here I am in California. A whole new journey has begun and I couldn’t be more excited. I am training under Rafael Arutyunyan. I am enjoying the competitive environment, my new training mates, and coaches. My long time coach will remain a part of my coaching team too. I have less than a month to train before my first competition of the season which is Skate Detroit. In August, I will participate in Champs Camp for the first time because of my two international Grand Prix assignments.
I am honored to be representing Team USA in Beijing, China and Moscow, Russia. I have been to Sochi, Russia for the JGP Final in 2012 and I am excited to go back. I have never been to China and can’t wait to compete there and meet their wonderful skating fans. I have a lot of training to do before then and Rafael is working me hard. I’ve been in California for 2 weeks and I’m exhausted every night. I can’t wait for all of you to see my new programs. They are both very different from anything I have done before and a lot of fun. Tom Dickson choreographed my long program and Rohene Ward did my short program. I was thrilled to have such amazing choreographers work with me. I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me but I am up for the challenge!! See you in the rink:)

Off to Nationals

I recently competed at Midwestern Sectional Championships in East Lansing, Michigan. Not only was it a fun week of competing and seeing my friends but it was also hosted at my home rink. My little sister Braedyn competed as a juvenile lady and I made sure to cheer super loud for her! She skated great and she couldn’t be more excited about her first sectionals. I competed Friday and Saturday. I was first up for the short program which I skated to Firebird. I did a fiery program that I was happy with when I skated off the ice. I made a few small mistakes (tripping on crossovers, oops) but I got a good score and ended up in 1st. On Saturday I skated to Primavera. It is a beautiful, modern program that I love! I was very happy with my skate but I also have many things to work on before nationals. I took 1st place and was thrilled that I put out two solid performances after recovering from surgery. Before and after I skated, the crowd was WILD! My whole family, my friends, and everyone from my rink were cheering like crazy! I couldn’t be more thankful for their support. Overall Sectionals was a blast and I couldn’t happier with how the week went. Now I am back to training hard and gearing up for the U.S. National Championships. I recently went to Connecticut to work with my choreography, Daniil Barantsev. I am convinced he was trying to kill me but I came home with a more in depth understanding of my programs. I cannot wait to show them off at the championships but until then you’ll find me on the ice training! (Above is a photo from after my long at Midwestern Sectionals)

Busy Spring

This spring has been very busy. I participated and had an amazing time at the Ice Dreams show in California. The cast included Johnny Weir, Max Aaron, Samantha Cesario, Polina Edmunds, Richard Dornbush, and Jason Brown. We all put on a great show and I loved spending time with the cast. Some of the other skaters and l even got to visit the beach, it was beautiful! I attached some pictures of my experience at the show, I hope you enjoy them.

Also, last weekend I competed at the Grand Rapids Open. I was very excited to debut my programs and get feedback. My short program music is Firebird by Igor Stravinsky and my long program music is Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi. I used Grand Rapids as my competition readiness for internationals. I love how my programs are turning out and I got some great feedback over the weekend!

Ice Dreams

We’re on our way to Oakland, California for the Ice Dreams show with Johnny Weir! It will be great at see all my friends and Johnny! I’m skating to Let’s Get Loud! Come cheer us on, it will be an amazing show!

Skate, Dance, Dream Show

Today I participated in the Skate, Dance, Dream show in Cleveland, Ohio. I got to meet and get to know many amazing dancers and skaters. Some of the features along with myself were Richard Dornbush, Gev Manoukian, and Sean Rabbit. Parker Pennington did a great job pulling together the show. It was amazing to be a part of and I had so much fun!

Success in Austria

Austria was a huge success! I had so much fun getting to know Team USA, and representing the USA when I skated! It was an amazing experience, and I am excited to come home with a silver medal! Next I will be heading to Croatia in two weeks to attend another JGP!! Go Team USA!!!
