My name is Louann Donovan. I am 15 years old and in the 10th grade at Newman Prep.
High School in Boston MA. I began skating at age 6 and have been skating ever since.
Figure skating is my passion! I am a very determined and hard worker in both school
and skating.
My most recent school & skating accomplishments are:
-Making the Deans list all 3 terms
-2002 Eastern Sectionals Junior Ladies Champion
-2002 JGP Sofia Cup in Bulgria - 6th
-2001 U.S. National Championships - Junior Ladies 6th
-2001 Eastern Sectionals - Jr. Ladies Champion
-2001 New England Regionals Junior Ladies Champion
-2000 Triglav Trophy - Novice Ladies Silver Medallist
-2000 U.S. NationalChampionships - Novice Ladies Bronze Medallist
-2000 Eastern Sectional Novice Ladies Silver Medallist
-Being named to the USA's 2006 Olympic Development Team
-Becoming a member of The USA Figure Skating Team
My goal for this year is to medal at the 2002 U.S. National Junior Ladies Championships in
Los Angeles.I train 30 -35 hours per week on
and off the ice year long. My coaches are Mary and Evy Scotvold (they coached Nancy
Kerrigan and Paul Wylie!) and they believe that I have the potential to represent the USA
in World, Olympic, and international competition.
At the present time, the cost of my skating is more than
45,000 a year. This amount includes ice time, coaching, off ice training, skates,
costumes, travel, competitions several times a year and is about average for a skater at
my level.
My dad, Tim Donovan, is self-employed and has a second job selling Custom Window
Treatments for Filenes, (a department store in Boston). My mom, Annette Donovan, works
with my dad everyday until 11:30 a.m.
She picks me up at school everyday at 12:00 noon to drive
me to the Tony Kent Arena on Cape Cod to train. The commute is 160 miles round trip per
day. I skate three one-hour sessions per day and then we drive home to Medford, MA. I try
to do all my home work on the ride home. When we get home, my Dad has dinner waiting for
us.
My Mom and Dad are doing the best they can to pay for my skating bills but need additional
financial support. A fund has been set-up for me at the New England Amateur Skating
Foundation.
All donations to this fund qualify as tax deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the
