U.S. Figure Skating announced its international selections for ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dancing events at the Four Continents Championships, the World Junior Championships and the World Championships following the conclusion of the U.S. Championships in Cleveland.

Colorado Springs, Colo., skaters were well represented on the men’s podium at the U.S. Championships with Jeremy Abbott taking the gold, Brandon Mroz the silver and Ryan Bradley the pewter. Two-time U.S. Champion Evan Lysacek had to settle for bronze after falling in his free skate.

Alissa Czisny and Rachael Flatt will compete at the World Championships after finishing first and second at the U.S. Championships in Cleveland. Ashley Wagner won the free to improve from 12th to fourth overall.

Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker won a second straight U.S. Championship. In only their first season together, Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett won the silver medal, edging out former national champions Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, who were third, and Brooke Castile and Ben Okolski, who were fifth.

The advertised Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir show at the 2009 U.S. Championships in Cleveland had a surprise star. Jeremy Abbott stole the spotlight with a masterful performance that put him in first place over Lysacek. After problems on the triple axel and triple flip, Weir is seventh.

Alissa Czisny took a break from skating after a disastrous performance that placed her ninth at the U.S. Championships last season. But instead of choosing retirement, Czisny opted for a new outlook. Rejuvenated, she won the short program at the U.S. Championships by 5.56 points.

Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker trail newcomers Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett after the short program at the 2009 U.S. Championships. Brubaker had trouble on the side-by-side jumps while McLaughlin two-footed the throw triple loop.

Although Brynn Carman and Chris Knierim both fell on their attempted side-by-side double lutzes, the team leads the junior pairs competition at the U.S. Championships in Cleveland. Junior Grand Prix Final competitors Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir finished second over Tracy Tanovich and Michael Chau, who fell on the death spiral.

Armin Mahbanoozadeh trails Ross Miner and Keegan Messing following the junior men’s short program at the U.S. Championships. Mahbanoozadeh’s program component score of 27.53 was the highest of the event but he lost points by popping his triple lutz.

At the U.S. Championships, gold medals were handed out to Joshua Farris (novice men’s); Kiri Baga (novice ladies); Cassie Andrews and Nicholas Anderson (novice pairs); and Lauri Bonacorsi and Travis Mager (novice ice dance).
