Johnny Weir wins second Michelle Kwan Trophy

U.S. Figure Skating and SKATING magazine announced today that 2010 U.S. bronze medalist Johnny Weir has won the 2010 Readers’ Choice Award for Skater of the Year (Michelle Kwan Trophy). Weir also won the award in 2008, making him the only two-time winner other than Kwan herself.

Rachael Flatt excited to meet President, First Lady

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic athletes of Team USA have received an invitation to visit the White House by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and they will have the honor of meeting the first couple on Wednesday, April 21. Nearly 225 of the total 264 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic athletes will visit the nation’s capital where they will come together for one last time to celebrate their great achievements.

Olympians to visit U.S. capital

Johnny Weir to host AidsWalk benefit

Skate America headed for Portland

U.S. Figure Skating announced today the selection of Portland, Ore., as the host city for 2010 Skate America. The competition, presented by U.S. Figure Skating, the Oregon Sports Authority and the Rose Garden, with support from Travel Portland, will take place Nov. 11-14 at the Rose Garden Arena, which also served as the site of the 2005 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

March 26 is ‘Evan Lysacek Day’

Naperville, Ill., is proud to announce “Evan Lysacek Day” on March 26, 2010, when Evan Lysacek, the 2010 Olympic gold medalist in men’s figure skating, will be visiting his hometown of Naperville. Lysacek is also the 2009 world champion, two-time U.S. champion and the Grand Prix Final champion.

Team USA sends 18 to World Juniors

Eighteen of the United States’ best junior skaters will compete March 8-14 at the 2010 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in The Hague, Netherlands. Competition begins Tuesday with the compulsory dance and pairs short program events. All but one of the U.S. entries is making their first appearance at the competition. More than 200 athletes from 53 countries will compete at De Uithof for World Junior titles in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dancing. Among the competitors in the Netherlands are Kiri Baga, Grant Hochstein and Armin Mahbanoozadeh.
