She plans to continue in competitive skating while Barrett will pursue performing professionally.

“I feel I’m just starting to scratch the surface when it comes to what I’m capable of,” Denney said. “My goal is to find a new partner and begin competing again by next season.”

Denney and Barrett’s competitive career began in 2008 and includes three medals at the U.S. Championships: silver in 2009, gold in 2010 and bronze in 2011. The team finished 13th at the 2010 Olympics and followed that with a seventh-place finish at the 2010 World Championships in Torino, Italy.

“I feel happy with everything that I have accomplished,” said Barrett, who also plans to pursue a coaching career. “I look forward to giving back to the sport that has given so much to me.”

Their best finish in the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series was fourth, which they accomplished twice, once at the 2009 NHK Trophy and again at 2010 Skate America. Other feats include a sixth place showing at the 2009 Four Continents Championship, the event which they withdrew from earlier this month year due to injury.

“We are thankful to all our coaches and their contributions to our success,” Denney said. “We have been blessed to have such an amazing journey.”

In August, Denney and Barrett announced the end of their two-year professional relationship with coaches Jim Peterson, Lyndon Johnston and Alison Smith, and will train with John Zimmerman and Silvia Fontana at Saveology Iceplex in Coral Springs, Fla., as members of the Panthers Figure Skating Club.

__________

Figure Skaters Online strives to be an accurate source of information related to the sport of figure skating.
