U.S. Figure Skating announced that the 2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, originally scheduled to take place in San Jose, Calif. Jan. 11–17, 2021, will relocate to Las Vegas and the Orleans Arena. The SAP Center in San Jose will now play host to the 2023 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
“This has been a season unlike any other, and we’re appreciative of our local organizers and the skating community in San Jose for their willingness to be flexible during these challenging times,” U.S. Figure Skating President Anne Cammett said in a statement to media. “We are also confident that the proven bubble concept we will implement at the Orleans Arena will ensure the 2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships are a successful event for all competitors, coaches and officials.”
The senior event will be Jan. 11-17, 2021, with the junior events following on Jan. 19-21, 2021.
The New Orleans Arena in Las Vegas recently hosted Skate America, Oct. 23-24, 2020. The event ran with a bubble-type environment, which U.S. Figure Skating will use that same plan for the U.S. Championships. Like Skate America, there will be no spectators permitted to the Orleans Arena. Fans who had previously purchased tickets to the event in San Jose will be issued a refund.
