During our interview with three-time U.S. Champion Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim, we also asked Alexa about her newest venture, Lexx Skate Designs.

In November, Alexa Knierim embarked on a new venture. She launched Lexx Skate Designs, a line of small tote bags.

“I noticed that a lot of girls had two types of bags on the boards, and Chris was kind of pushing me to do something of my own, with sparkles or rhinestones, because he felt like a lot of girls would appreciate it and would want something that I had,” Alexa explained.

Alexa’s tote bags come in two different colors, gold and silver, and cost $39 each.  The bags are water resistant and contain two pockets inside of the tote. An authentic autograph of Alexa is printed on the side of each bag.

“I was a little hesitant at the beginning, but I started designing the bags, and it was something that I wanted the girls to have when they go on the ice. And I wanted to incorporate sparkle because that’s something that I personally love,” Alexa said.

Alexa also wanted to use the bags to encourage young girls. She included the quote: “With this bag, I commit to trusting the process and having faith that I will succeed.”

“I wanted something that would inspire the kids on a daily basis, which is why I put the quote on the side, to remind them to stay committed to the journey,” Alexa shared. “It is funny because sometimes I would actually look at that quote these last couple of months and remember that this is what I am preaching and I also have to stay committed to the process.”

The front of the bag shows a skate with the word “faith” on it. Since her rare, life-threatening gastrointestinal condition in 2016, Alexa has been open about her faith – including adding cross decals on the heel of both her skates.

“God is going to be there for you, and you can find happiness if you rely on His strength,” Alexa said. “When I made the bags, I did put ‘faith’ on the front. I know that not everybody shares the same beliefs, so I did not want to make it too spiritual. I wanted people to interpret the word in whatever way they want to.”

Sales were strong when she first launched the bags, but Alexa did take a little break from the venture to focus on Nationals. She told Figure Skaters Online in Greensboro that  she hopes to promote them more when she gets back home.

“I hope that more people will buy them because I think it’s a good inspiration for the kids to have faith and just keep believing,” Alexa remarked.
