Jonathan Cassar moves to Southern California

Jonathan Cassar announced on his official website Wednesday that he has relocated to Southern California to train with Frank Carroll, the coach of 2010 Olympic Champion Evan Lysacek and fourth place finisher Mirai Nagasu. Cassar previously trained at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., with coaches Julianne Berlin and Jason Dungjen.

Carroll, who also coaches international skaters including Italy’s World Championship medalist Carolina Kostner, currently coaches in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., but will begin coaching in Palm Springs this fall. He was recently on staff at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo but in March, he announced that he was leaving the rink.

At the 2010 U.S. Championships, Cassar finished 12th in the senior competition, a year after making a 16th place debut. He has competed once internationally, taking seventh at 2008 Coupe de Nice in Nice, France.

Cassar also announced that his new short program is to “El Tango de Roxanne”.
