Poapst and Knierim, silver medalists in the junior pairs event at the 2011 U.S. Championships in Greensboro, N.C., recently made their senior debut at the Indy Challenge. In the short program, they finished third with 50.55 points while their free skate score of 92.69 put them in fifth place for that portion of the event.
The team paired in July 2010 and had programs by August. In November, they won the junior pairs event at the Midwestern Sectional Championships, qualifying for the U.S. Championship only five months after their tryout.
Poapst and Knierim, both members of the famed Broadmoor Skating Club, train at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo., under the direction of Dalilah Sappenfield, Larry Ibarra and Damon Allen. Their choreographers are Sappenfeld and Julie Marcotte.
