Getting to know U.S. Olympian Polina Edmunds

The Team USA Ladies Figure Skating Team consists of three very talented young ladies. Many people have heard about 2014 U.S. Champion Gracie Gold and two-time National Champion Ashley Wagner.  But many have not heard about 15-year-old Polina Edmunds. So that’s why Figure Skaters Online caught up with the 2014 U.S. Silver medalist for a fun interview before she took off for Sochi.

What is your favorite element in your programs?

I like my triple-triple combinationpolinamedal.

What do you like most about skating?

I like to skate my programs with the choreography because it makes me feel like a ballerina.

What is one thing you’d like to change about skating if you could?

I would like to change the politics of the sport, giving freedom to everyone.

What are you most looking forward to about Sochi?

I can’t wait to see the Olympic village.

Do you know who you’ll be rooming with in the Olympic Village?

Not yet

What is your goal for Sochi?

My goal is to skate two clean programs.

What is one thing you bring with you every time you travel to competitions (not counting skates and costumes)?

I bring my iPad for school work.polinafree

Your mom is from Russia and you still have family there. Will you be able to see your family that lives in Russia while you are there?

We don’t know yet, but some will most likely come.

Is there an athlete you’d like to meet in Sochi?

I can’t wait to see Shaun White and all of the other famous Olympic athletes.

Turning to some questions not regarding skating. What’s your favorite subject in school?

Art and History

What do you like about school?

I like the campus and the atmosphere at school because it is very supportive and friendly.

What do you like to do when you are not skating?

Cook/bake, draw/paint, knit, play with my dog, and dance

What’s your favorite color?

Pink

What’s your favorite movie?

The Benchwarmers

What’s your favorite song/singer/band?

Christina Aguilera, Lennon and Maisy Stella

What’s your favorite TV?

Nashville, Pretty Little Liars, and Dance Moms

What do you like to eat for breakfast?

Waffles, eggs, and bacon

What’s your favorite drink?

Iced tea

I like to watch TV.

Do you have any pets?

Yes I have a dog labradoodle named Domino.

Let’s get to some fun questions! If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Near the beach in California.

If you could travel back in time, what time period would you go to?

I would go to the 90’s and be part of the Full House cast.

You like to make fun music videos. How or why did you get inspired to start making fun music videos?

My older brother started making iMovies when he was about 11-years-old, so I always wanted to be like him, making movies with friends.

What are some of your favorite moments that you captured in your videos so far?

Some great moments were from when I was in Salt Lake City, dance daring famous coaches with my friends, and also in Japan, we had a lot of fun behind the scenes of the competition.

Can we expect an Olympic video or two from you in Sochi?

I’ll probably leave that to Team USA ice dancer Alex Shibutani

You are really good friends and partners-in-crime with ice dancer, Anthony Ponomarenko, who is the son of your choreographer, Marina Klimova. Describe Anthony in three to five words.

He’s hilarious, crazy, energetic, all-around fun person to be with.
