Slideshow: 2010 Ice Dreams

Fresh-off competing at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, 2010 U.S. Champion Rachael Flatt and three-time U.S. Champion Johnny Weir helped fulfill the dreams of 100 Chicago-area junior skaters by performing together in a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Ice Dreams, April 1, in Bensenville, Ill. Also among the show performers were two-time U.S. Champions Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker.

Johnny Weir joins all-star cast for Skate for Hope

Three-time U.S. Champion Johnny Weir headlines the cast for the Skate for Hope, a charity fundraiser, June 19 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. It is a rare U.S. appearance for the two-time Olympian, who has participated in only a few shows since placing sixth at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada. Rachael Flatt, Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker and Caitlin Yankowskas and John Coughlin will also perform.

Evening with Champions celebrates 40 years

On April 16-17, more than 50 skaters including 2009 U.S. Junior Men’s Champion Ross Miner and 2009 World Junior Championship bronze medalists Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir joined together in the fight against pediatric cancer. This year’s Evening with Champions celebrated the non-profit organization’s 40th anniversary.

Olympians star in Ice Dreams

Fresh-off competing at the Vancouver Olympic Games, Johnny Weir and Rachael Flatt will fulfill the dreams of 100 Chicago-area junior skaters as they perform together in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Also participating in the show are former Olympians Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov as well as 2008 and 2009 national pairs champions Rockne Brubaker and Keauna McLaughlin.

Stars on Ice special airs Jan. 3

Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi will host the Smucker’s Stars on Ice 2010 Tour special, featuring Sasha Cohen and Evan Lysacek. On Sunday, Jan, 3, viewers will get a special behind the scenes look at this world-famous tour, how it all began, the star skaters, heartfelt emotional memories, a collection of standout performances and most importantly, a sneak peek at this year’s stellar cast.

Vote for most improv-ed

Amway Global Improv-Ice, aired earlier Christmas Day on NBC, featured an all-star cast of world champions and Olympic medalists, including reigning world champ Evan Lysacek and 2006 Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen. The Grammy award-winning Goo Goo Dolls also performed both familiar hits and new songs live at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

‘Skate for Life’ planned for June 27

Parker Pennington has a colorful resume that includes three national championships. But the accomplishment that he is most proud of is organizing the Skate for Life show, which raised $21,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association last year. He hosts the show again on June 27 in Stronsville, Ohio.
